A multi-faceted personality, Paris Whitney Hilton is an extremely rich
American celebrity, being the great-granddaughter and heiress of Conrad Hilton,
the owner of the famous chain of Hilton hotels and an accomplished actress in
her own rights. She was born on February 17, 1981 and is also related to the
great actress, Elizabeth Taylor.
Paris Hilton’s educational pursuits did not go beyond high school, which she
completed at the Dwight School in New York. She was, however, granted a GED but
she did not attend any university program. Instead, she started a career in
modeling and made her mark with her ramp walks. She then graduated to the world
of cinema and TV and became an accomplished actress. Besides acting in many
famous TV shows and movies, she cultivated her celebrity status with great éclat
and has become a well-known figure in social circles.
Paris Hilton’s modeling career had started with very few ramp walks and she
also did some small film roles, which were greatly appreciated. She had appeared
as her own self in “Zoolander”, a hi-fashion satire in 2001. This movie had Ben
Stiller in the lead role and it was modeled after Green Acres, a sitcom of the
60s. It was a smashing hit with sequels cropping up in 2004 and 2005. Paris
Hilton and Nicole Ritchie (Lionel Ritchie's daughter) had to spend nearly a
month on a farm in Altus, Arkansas for shooting of this movie.
Another facet of her personality was unraveled when Paris Hilton released a
book in 2004, titled, “Confessions of an Heiress”. Her acting career made a
swashbuckling comeback in 2005 when the 1950s horror film classic, “House of
Wax” was remade and Paris Hilton acted in this movie along with Elisha Cuthbert.
Her acting talents as exhibited in this movie were greatly appreciated and
applauded.
It’s the realty show “The Simple Life” that has catapulted Paris Hilton’s
acting career to the acme of glory. She has been shown as working on an Arkansas
farm in this 2003 show which was a sequel to the 1960s sitcom Green Acres. The
popularity of this show was evident from the fact that people preferred to watch
“The Simple Life” on Network Fox than watching ABC channel to listen to George
Bush who had given his verdict in an interview that Saddam Hussein should be
hanged.
“The Simple Life” was so popular that nearly 11.8 million people viewed it in
comparison to only 11 million people who watched Bush’s ABC “Prime Time”
interview. These figures were released by Reuters and are very credible. Paris
Hilton gained extreme publicity when her boyfriend Rick Salomon clandestinely
released a video showing both of them having sex, on the Internet. This caused a
major flutter and the people were scandalized by the video which was titled “1
Night in Paris”. This incident took place immediately after the debut of “The
Simple Life” and Paris Hilton sued Rick Salomon for making the tape public. She
won the case and received US $400,000 as damages, a part of which was donated by
her to charity.
In the 2003-2004 reports of the Forbes Magazine it has been reported that her
earnings from movie and television roles were US$7.5 million and the income
figure for 2004-2005 was $15.5 million. For the period 2004-2005, she has been
ranked as one of the top 100 celebrities in the world by Forbes Magazine.
Paris Hilton’s roles in QIK2JDG and L.A. Knights were short whereas she had
minor and supporting roles in feature films such as House of Wax, Wonderland,
The Hillz, Raising Helen, Uptown Girls, and Nine Lives. She was awarded the
Worst Supporting Actress Razzie of 2005 for her performance in House of Wax. She
is expected to appear in the movies “Pledge This” and “Bottom’s Up” which are
likely to be released in 2006 and National Lampoon's Pledge This! (2005) will be
her first lead role in a theatrical release.
